RWANDA 55 - THE IMPORTANCE OF MUSIC AS AN EXPRESSION

Hip hop is an artistic culture that began during the 1970s in the central areas of Jamaican communities, Latino and african-American city of New York.

Afrika Bambaataa, known as the official creator of the movement, has established four key pillars in hip hop culture: rapping, DJing, the breakdance and graffiti writing.

At a time when hip hop music began, the base was concentrated in the disc jockeys (DJ) who created rhythmic beats to breaks "loop" (small pieces of music with an emphasis on repetitions).

Hip hop is also an important way to express feelings, as all types of music. However, this style of music carries with it something very interesting: the power to use music as a spokeman for the needs and anguish faced in the lower classes.

It is the voice of the people!

Rightly, so, hip hop has attracted many adherents.

In Brazil, the birthplace of hip hop is Sao Paulo. It appeared with force in the 1980s, of the traditional meetings in the street on May 24 and the São Bento subway, which left many renowned artists as Thaíde.

The main premium of hip hop in the country is "Prêmio Hutúz" ( Premium Hutúz ) in a ceremony held every year. It is organized by Hutúz and is considered the largest in Latin America.

Rwanda also could not be different. We interview the group Ziggy 55.

Check out what he has to say about the rhythm and then, listen for the sound that packs Rwanda!!

INTERVIEW WITH ZIGGY 55

NAME: NSHIMIYIMANA Fikiri
ARTISTIC NAME: Ziggy 55 (Double Five)
BAND / GROUP: The Brothers
HOW LONG IS THERE THE BAND: 6 years.
WHAT STYLE OF YOUR MUSIC: R n’ B, Afro Beats and Reggae.
ABOUT WHAT SPEAK THE SONGS: Love and everyday life.
IN WHAT LANGUAGE IS YOUR MUSIC: Kinyarwanda, English and French.

AMAKURUBLOG: What led you to become a singer? And choose this style of music?

ZIGGY: I grew up doin music. I started as a club DJ and started writting songs...and one day a friend of mine saw me Jamin’  and told me i gotta a talent so i gotta keep it goin. And i started singin.

AMAKURUBLOG: What profession would follow if it were not a singer?

ZIGGY: I would like to be a movie actor. I like movies and i like acting.

AMAKURUBLOG: Comment on why they chose this name for your band?

ZIGGY: Well, where the Brothers started it was in 2004. I joined the group in 2006 and they had already that name.

AMAKURUBLOG: Who and how many are members of your band?

ZIGGY: We are three. Ziggy 55 (me), Dany and Vicky.

AMAKURUBLOG: What is the funniest event that happened in a presentation?

ZIGGY: Well, there are many. I dont even know how to choose one. But last time i was performing a fan came on the stage and started dancing. Now when it comes the times  for her to go home, she refused to go and said she ain’t goin  without me. The people with with her told me what’s on goin on and i had to take her to the car and made believe that we were goin together... she entered in the car,  they locked the car so that she doesnt get out and that’s how they took her home.

AMAKURUBLOG: Talk about your projects, releases and recordings.

ZIGGY: We have released one “double’’ album so far, With a couple videos. Now we are workin on another album, but we also have some solo projects goin on. I am workin on my solo album (Z Empire).

AMAKURUBLOG: How will the year 2011 for the group?

ZIGGY: This year we need to work hard. We need to take our music to the next level by any means necessary. We want to take our stuff to the international scene.

AMAKURUBLOG: How do you define inspiration? What inspires you to write your songs?

ZIGGY: I think inspiratio is divine. When it’s there...then it’s there. When you’re not inspired then you can’t force it. Inspiration is to see what people see but don’t see, and express it in a way that people can not. Myself i am inspired by my life. Things that i’ve been through, and the people around me.

AMAKURUBLOG: If you could make a playlist of songs you hear on a daily, what are these songs?

ZIGGY: Well, if i could make a play list it would very long as it changes every day. Remember i am a DJ (lol). But i listen a lot to old music. Music from the 70’s 80’s...and the early 90’s.

AMAKURUBLOG: What has to say about Brazilian music? Like some in particular?

ZIGGY: Wooooow, I like samba. (lol) It has a groove that i’ve never seen. (lol) Unfortunately i can’t catch the words. Hahaaha

AMAKURUBLOG: In your opinion, what are the similarities and differences of Brazilian music and Rwandans?

ZIGGY: Aaaah, they are very different. Simply because the culture is different and the music it self is on differrent maturity level. If i could compare it to my traditional music, the instruments used are totaly different and the way we sing too. For the conten I can’t tell because i cant get nothin in what they sing in brazilian music (poor me!!!) and if i compare it to our modern music, it can’t match because our modern music industry still tryin to build it self.

AMAKURUBLOG: What sites can consult to track your work?

ZIGGY: Actually my website still under construction but you can find a lot of my stuff on:
www.inyarwanda.com

AMAKURUBLOG: What is the impact of their work in Rwanda?

ZIGGY: You konw music is very important in our every day life. Just picture what life could be without music!!! So our Music helps Rwandans to express their feelings, emotions...and it helps them to relax and sing a song in their mother tongue (Lol) !!!

AMAKURUBLOG: What's your dream? Something great that you still want to accomplish?

ZIGGY:  I would like to do a very very big concert performing for a thousand and thousand of people...!!! Funny ain’t it?

AMAKURUBLOG: What is the differential of Rwandan music and the artists Rwandans, and what you have to offer the world?

ZIGGY: Well, we have our traditional stuff related to our culture and it’s very nice to see. Our traditional dance is one the best in the world...i can bet on it. But when it comes to modern music industry, you can’t help noticing that it still under construction.

AMAKURUBLOG: Add a message for people who follow their work and to the Rwandans.

ZIGGY: Well, I think music is universal and differences in our culture should unite us instead of divide us. We are meant to sing to the world so for me, i will never give it up no matter what is goin’ on.
I will invite the world to discover Rwandan Music....You gonna like it.
Peace on Earth.

Ziggy, we are very happy for this interview. Thank you heartily for your cooperation!

We wish much success, and that you and The Brothers can accomplish this highly awaited show, for thousands and thousands of people!!!

And we hope to have the privilege of being in that audience!!!!

Now enjoy.......

1001 VISITS AND 1001 IDEAS......

WOW, we do not believe that we have reached the 1.000 visitors to our blog!
I'll be honest, I think that nobody would read what we write.
And especially for being in English, we think very few Brazilians read it.
Our English unfortunately is not very good but we believe that everyone is able to understand what we mean.
My god, only 7 posts and over 1.000 visitors. This really makes us happy too!
We'll put down some of the countries that have already visited us, and may believe, many countries:

RWANDA

BRAZIL

LIBYA

BELGIUM

NETHERLANDS

FRANCE

ITALY

CANADA

UNITED STATES

  SPAIN

ARGENTINA
GERMANY
AUSTRALIA

SUDAN

GREECE

SWITZERLAND

INDONESIA

LEBANON

PUERTO RICO

UNITED KINGDOM

We would like to give a big thanks for all the visits and really take an interest in this country called Rwanda.

I need to ask a favor to all who enter, because as we said in our first post, we have many ideas to put into practice.

Not yet put them in posts. Because we want to know more and more about Rwanda!
We are still preparing the posts with our ideas.
And also a picture of us! .. ahaha
But the favor I need to ask and would appreciate you could help us is:

We NEED FOLLOWERS  and NEED SUPPORTERS.

To put into practice our ideas, we need a lot of followers, partners, supporters and sponsorship!

What's the difference? Here we go:

The SPONSORSHIP, FINANCES a program, event, or something else.

The SUPPORTERS, COLLABORATIVE support  to a campaign with information.

The PARTNERSHIP is a SOCIET where both are finance or  exchange.

And you followers are most important to us, because just having followers, we can achieve partnership, supporters and sponsors.
But anyway, we can only say one thing:

VERY, VERY, VERY MUCH for each of you to visit the AMAKURU!

Our main goal is still being able to go to Rwanda and have our 1000 SMILES.

I think 1000 SMILE will not be difficult to achieve, because I see many smiles in the Rwandan photos over the internet.
